Prayer
At Divine Redeemer, we place great emphasis upon our Catholic identity. Prayer is a critical part of the school experience at Divine Redeemer. Prayer and faith is imbued throughout every aspect of the school. We uphold Jesus as the ultimate embodiment of Christian faith and love.
Each school day begins and ends with prayer. Morning prayer begins with a reading from sacred scripture, followed by the recitation of the “Our Father”. The Pledge of Allegiance and Divine Redeemer School Student Pledge follow. Afternoon prayer begins with the Hail Mary followed by the Act of Contrition. Prayer ends with the Gloria.
Teachers often pray with their classes during the day as well. Grace is said before every meal and snack. The entire school shares in a weekly Catholic Mass on Thursday mornings. While we embrace children and families of other faiths, our Catholic mission and identity are paramount to our school.
Common prayers at Divine Redeemer are as follows:
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.
The Act of Contrition
Oh my God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and in failing to do good, I have sinned against You, whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Amen.
The Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my guardian dear to whom God’s love entrusts me here, ever this day be at my side to light, to guard to rule, and guide. Amen.
The Gloria (“Glory be to the Father”)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts Which we are about to receive from thy bounty, Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
